His research interests center on human-centered intelligent information processing, with particular emphasis on spoken language processing, signal processing, music information processing, natural language processing, human interfaces, communication robotics, and extended reality (xR), including virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.
Born in Osaka, Japan, in 1969, he received his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Waseda University in 1992 and completed the doctoral program in Electrical Engineering at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Science and Engineering in 1996, earning a Doctor of Engineering degree. During this period, he was a visiting student at Oregon Graduate Institute in the United States in 1992, and also a visiting student at École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, France in 1993.
From 1996 to 1998, he was a researcher at AT&T Labs in the United States. He joined Chiba Institute of Technology (CIT) as an Associate Professor in the Department of Network Science in 1998 and returned to AT&T Labs as a Visiting Researcher in 1999. In 2005, he served as a Visiting Professor at Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France. He became an Associate Professor in CIT’s Department of Advanced Robotics in 2006 and has been a Professor since 2010. He was the Dean of Faculty of Engineering and an Advisor to the president of CIT from 2012 to 2015. He has served as Vice President of CIT since 2015.
音声言語処理，信号処理，音楽情報処理，自然言語処理，ヒューマンインタフェース，コミュニケーションロボティクス，xR(VR, AR, MRなど)を中心とした人間の知的情報処理に興味を持つ。
1969年大阪府出身。1992年早稲田大学理工学部電気工学科卒業。1992年米Oregon Graduate Institute短期留学。1993年仏École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications短期留学。1996年早稲田大学大学院理工学研究科電気工学専攻博士後期課程修了、博士(工学)。 1996～98年米国AT&T研究所研究員。1998年千葉工業大学情報ネットワーク学科助教授。1999年米AT&T研究所客員研究員。2005年仏コンピエーニュ工科大学客員教授。2006年千葉工業大学未来ロボティクス学科助教授 (2007年より准教授)、2010年より教授、2012〜2015年工学部長・学長補佐、2015年より副学長。現在に至る。

His broader interests extend to perceptual information processing in vision and hearing, intelligent robotics, psychology, cognitive science, affective science, bioinformatics, welfare engineering, computer networks, mobile communications, document processing, digitization, social media, ICT devices, web and industrial design, photography and printing technology, music, art, literature, history, and philosophy, as well as technologies for managing and processing the intellectual information that surrounds us.
He is also an active amateur pianist and classical music critic and serves as Advisor to the CIT Wind Orchestra and the CIT Photography Club.
上記テーマの他，視覚や聴覚を含んだ知覚情報処理，知能ロボティクス，心理学・認知科学・感性科学，生体生命情報学，福祉工学，コンピュータネットワーク，モバイルコミュニケーション，文書処理，種々の情報の電子化，ソーシャルメディア，ICTガジェット(スマートフォン・携帯端末・電子ブックリーダなど)，Webデザイン，工業デザイン，写真・印刷技術，音楽全般，芸術全般，文学，歴史，哲学までを包含した身の回りの知的情報及びその管理・処理技術に強い関心を持つ。 アマチュアピアニスト，クラシック音楽評論家としても熱心に活動している。
